Record stereo audio directly to your iPod with ProTrack. Capture live sound on your iPod anywhere and anytime without a single cable, and with one hand free! Just dock your iPod and cover it with the protective clear shield, and you're ready to roll.

You can record detailed, 16-bit, 44.1kHz or 22kHz stereo digital audio without connecting any additional equipment using ProTrack's onboard pair of cardioid condenser microphones. The on-board mics are fixed in XY configuration for optimal stereo imaging. ProTrack also has a pair of combo XLR-1/4" inputs enabling you to connect any professional sound source, including condenser and dynamic microphones and mixer outputs. Whether you are running on plug-in or battery power, ProTrack supplies 48V phantom power to its inputs for operation with external condenser microphones.

ProTrack has LED-level metering for instant visual indication, even in a dark club. You can monitor or play back recordings on the 1/8" stereo-headphone output. Controls for phantom power, limiter, and volume are easy to access.

ProTrack records on four AAA batteries or AC power using the included adapter. A 1/4"-20 threaded mounting point enables you to mount ProTrack on a mic stand with the optional ProTrack Adapter, on a table with the optional ProTrack Tripod table stand, or on a camera tripod for hands-free tracking.

ProTrack automatically dates and time-stamps files so it's easy to identify which track was the recording of the acoustic-guitar folk duo last Tuesday at happy hour, and which was the flailing hard-rock drummer from Friday night. And speaking of that percussive dynamo, you'll appreciate ProTrack's switchable limiter which ensures that your recordings are distortion-free.

ProTrack is the most convenient way to capture sound effects, recitals, jam sessions, speeches, interviews, rehearsals, performances, meetings, lectures, notes-to-self, and anything else you can thing of... directly to your iPod.

By recording in the DSD format you are assured that your most important, once-in-a-lifetime moments are captured in stunning detail, and ready for whatever the future brings you. And back in the studio, the MR-1also provides superb final mix and archiving benefits.

Powerful AudioGateTM software bundled with this portable digital recorder enables the conversion of your DSD recordings and mixes into all of today's audio formats without degradation. Best of all, by archiving your data in 1-bit recorder format you're ready for the future, as playback systems and standards change.

Real World Features
The MR-1 location recorder supports multiple recording formats including DSDIFF, DSF, and WSD 1-bit formats*, as well as multi-bit PCM format (BWF) with resolutions up to 24-bit/192 kHz.

It features a 20Gbyte internal hard drive, offering up to six hours of recording** at the highest audio quality (1-bit 2.8224 MHz stereo), or approximately thirty hours at CD quality (16-bit 44.1 kHz).

High-speed USB 2.0 connectivity provides for fast and easy transfer of files between the DSD recorder and your computer. The MR-1 is a portable digital recorder that runs on AC or long-life rechargeable lithium polymer battery.

**The maximum continuous recording time is approximately six hours when using an AC adapter.

The ultra portable MR-1 includes dual balanced mini plug inputs and a stereo mini plug output. The high-resolution audio recorder includes a stereo electret condenser mic so the unit can be tucked away and the mic clipped or placed in a convenient location. It features an intuitive, menu-driven interface featuring a large backlit LCD for superb visibility.

A total of one thousand projects*** can be recorded in this Korg portable digital recorder, and file management functions such as Rename, Delete, and Protect can be easily applied to individual projects. Up to one hundred mark points can also be stored in each project.

***Recognizes a maximum of 200 projects for each format (WAV, DFF, DSF and WSD), max 1,000 projects

Free Integrated Software Solution
The MR-1 comes with Korg's innovative and powerful AudioGateTM software for Mac® and PC. AudioGate can convert 1-bit recordings into WAV and AIFF formats at various bit-rates (and vice versa) and offers real-time conversion and playback of DSD files using your computer's audio hardware.

AudioGate also performs essential functions like DC offset removal, gain control, and fade in/out. The combination of the MR-1 and this exclusive software makes the perfect system for both capturing and preserving your critical projects and source recordings. This archiving capability that had only been the domain of the major record companies and top studios is now available for everyone!

1-bit Technology Equals Pristine Fidelity
1-bit recording is the latest advancement in audio, and has been adopted for use in the critically acclaimed SACD recording format. DSD recording offers a frequency response of DC to 100 kHz and dynamic range of 120 dB. This uncompromising fidelity, low noise floor, extended dynamic range, lifelike imaging and analog quality depth has been praised by top experts. But there are other important advantages to the format that are of benefit to all recording professionals, regardless of their tracking platform.

Future Proof Flexibility
Today's state-of-the-art 24-bit converters use high-speed 1-bit conversion to capture audio, using real-time decimation and other processes to present the data in the desired bit depth/sample rate format. The beauty of the MR's bitstream format is that it uses the original 1-bit data, without the need for the other processes. In other words, what comes in is what comes out, with no manipulation needed.

As files are converted and reconverted between various bit depths and sampling rates, there are possibly degrading effects, depending on the sample rate conversion algorithms. The critical issue is that files mixed and mastered in today's state of the art resolution may be insufficient for tomorrow's formats. Archiving your final mixes and masters in a 1-bit system allows you to bypass these issues, and preserve your music with both the highest fidelity and in a more "universal" format. That data then can more easily be converted at a later date to the bit depth/sample rate format of your choice without compromising the integrity or fidelity of the data. You can even convert to newer formats that will be adopted in the future, be they multi-bit or a further migration to the 1-bit format.

Future Proof Recording Explained
For a complete overview of current PCM digital audio techniques and some of the principals and advantages that 1-bit recording provides both in terms of fidelity and archiving for future use, read
Future Proof Recording Explained.

* Notes: Recording Formats

DSF (DSD Stream File)
This is a DSD file format supported by some Sony "VAIO" personal computers (models with the "Sound Reality" engine) sold since September, 2005. This format is already supported by software such as "SonicStage Mastering StudioVer.2.0" and "DSD Direct," and it is expected that increasing numbers of software titles will support it in the future, including shareware and freeware.

WSD (Wideband Single-bit Data)
This is a 1-bit audio file format created by the "One-bit Audio Consortium." It accommodates all formats of one-bit audio data without limitation of channel number or sample rate. The "One-bit Audio Consortium" was established in 2001 with the goal of contributing to the advance of audio through research, development, and popularization of 1-bit audio technology and its work is currently supported by more than sixty members.

Journey thru the AudioGate
AudioGate is Korg’s exclusive file format conversion software, and is indispensible for working with your MR Series recordings.

By saving your MR-1 1-Bit recordings as the high resolution archival master, you can then use the AudioGate software to transform the data into multiple format masters. For example – the same source material can be used to create a CD master (16-bit/44.1 kHz); as the soundtrack in a DVD (DVD Audio = 24-bit/96 kHz), or imported into the latest DAW Session (at 24-bit/192 kHz).

This latest version of AudioGate – Version 2.0 – uses newly refined conversion algorithms that deliver exceptional results. In addition, AudioGate provides useful tools for treating and working with files. Individual songs may be spliced into one, or a single concert recording can be broken out into individual songs. Gain control, fades (in or out, linear or exponential) and DC offset correction are provided.

With Version 2.0 you can also read and create DSD Discs and Audio CDs, including support for album artwork. A “Normalize” function has been added, and newly developed advanced dithering options have been added, including Korg’s proprietary “AQUA” algorithm that provides superlative conversion results. Support for importing new file formats - FLAC, WMA, AAC and Apple Lossless formats and even MP3 – has been added as well.

When you’re done recording, you can check out your recordings on the PalmTrack’s built-in speaker, using your own headphones, connecting the PalmTrack to your Mac or PC with its mini USB jack, or by removing the SD card and inserting it into your computer’s SD card slot or reader.

While you’re tracking, you’ll be able to easily tell that the PalmTracking is recoding thanks to its red Record light. You can easily switch the mics’ gain from high to low with the left-side switch, and you can adjust the input level with the up and down buttons on the right.

You can choose between 44.1 and 48kHz sample rates, select an MP3 bitrate from 64 to 320kbps for maximum recording time, or choose uncompressed 16 or 24-bit WAV for broadcast-quality recording. For all-in-one recording, the PalmTrack has FOUR microphones housed in its protective grille. You can select two mics for stereo pickup pattern, four mics for omnidirectional pickup pattern, plug your own mic into the PalmTrack’s 1/8-inch mic input, or any line-level source into its 1/8-inch line input.

The PalmTrack also gives you powerful processing onboard, including bass compensation for reducing the proximity effect in close-miked situations, as well as Chorus, Pitch Shift, Delay, and Reverb settings for adding flavor and creative effects to your recordings. There’s also an MP3 voice cancelling mode that enables you remove vocals from MP3s. On top of all of that, there’s even a handy tuner!

The PalmTrack has a bright, clear OLED display that shows you blue-on-black text and metering information, even in a dark club. It records running on the two included AA batteries, or using an optional power adapter. A 1/4"-20 threaded mounting point enables you to mount the PalmTrack on a mic stand with the optional ProTrack Adapter, on a table with the optional ProTrack Tripod table stand, or on a camera tripod for hands-free tracking.
