Minder gedoe, meer inspiratie

Voor een Reason-gebruiker is de weg van muzikaal idee tot volledige productie heel kort. De intuïtieve, voor zichzelf sprekende gebruikersinterface en snelle toegang tot instrumenten en effecten maken het leerproces van Reason bijzonder eenvoudig. Reason is zo direct dat u er in enkele minuten mee overweg kunt. Met Reason kunt u doorgaan waar u gebleven was, gisteravond of vorige maand, door eenvoudig de knop in te drukken. Wanneer u uw muziek opslaat, wordt de hele studioconfiguratie ook opgeslagen. U kunt zelfs uw samples, loops en drumkits bewaren in het Reason-bestand zodat u die eenvoudig op het web kunt zetten of met andere Reason-gebruikers kunt uitwisselen. Totale vrijheid.

En dan is er het geluid. De geluidskwaliteit is precies wat u kunt verwachten van Propellerhead Software. Maar met de loepzuivere geluidskwaliteit is maar de helft gezegd. De instrumenten en effecten in Reason zitten boordevol karakter. Al is het programma eenvoudig te leren en te gebruiken, het is ook een zeer flexibel muzieksysteem dat u net zo complex en geavanceerd kunt maken als u zelf wilt. Met geavanceerde tools zoals de MClass mastering suite, het geweldige Combinator-device of de krachtige Thor-synth biedt Reason niet alleen indrukwekkende, maar ook inspirerende eigenschappen.

Regel uw controls

Elke eenheid in de virtuele rack van Reason hebben hun eigen paneel op het scherm. Alle schuiven, knoppen en functies zijn gemakkelijk te zien en kunnen direct en in real-time worden aangepast. Alle acties op het voorpaneel, zoals filterverstellingen, pitch bending, gain riding of panning, kunnen worden opgenomen en geautomatiseerd in de Reason-sequencer.

Radical routing

Met één druk op een knop wordt de rack van Reason omgedraaid en staat u tussen de kabels. De meeste audioverbindingen worden automatisch gemaakt. Wanneer er een nieuw apparaat wordt aangemaakt, verschijnt dit onmiddellijk onder het momenteel geselecteerde apparaat. Reason sluit dit apparaat op de meest logische manier aan op het systeem. U kunt de aansluiting wijzigen door kabels naar de gewenste aansluiting te slepen of door een keuze uit een vervolgkeuzemenu te maken. De meeste apparaten hebben een of meer parameters die worden geregeld door Gate en/of CV. En alle instrumentopties hebben verschillende opties voor Gate- of CV-opties. Combineer met het eenvoudige, overzichtelijke aansluiting, en u hebt iets wat lijkt op een volledig modulaire synthesizer.

Meer apparatuur nodig?

Geen probleem. Kies een synthesizer, een loop player of een ander apparaat uit het Create-menu. Het apparaat wordt automatisch in de rack getoond en op een logische manier aangesloten op de rest van het systeem. Reason is ook ontworpen om geen grote aanslag op uw computer te doen zodat u het proces kunt herhalen totdat u helemaal tevreden bent. Als u ooit elf samplers en tien compressors had willen hebben, dan is Reason echt iets voor u. En als u meer apparaten hebt gemaakt dan u mixerkanalen hebt, dan kunt een eenvoudig een nieuwe mixer aanmaken. De studio van uw dromen is maar een paar muisklikken weg.

Physical modeling synthesis uses complex mathematics to reproduce the behavior of the individual physical components of an instrument—in this case the mallets, tines, pickups, dampers and other parts that interact to produce the unique sounds of electric pianos—all in real time. Because the sounds are synthesized, not sampled, it's possible to quickly tweak each component and customize the instrument to your personal taste. You can also go far beyond the capabilities of the originals and create amazing new sounds while still retaining the warm qualities of an electric piano. Electric pianos have several components that interact to create the sound of the instrument. When a note on the keyboard is struck, a mallet hits a fork. The fork has two parts: the tine and the tone bar. The mallet strikes the tine, causing it to vibrate, which causes the tone bar to resonate at a specific pitch. The sound of the resonating tone bar is then amplified by a pickup and sent to the output. Once the fork is activated, it will continue to resonate on its own for a long time. But releasing the key applies a damper to the fork, which mutes it more quickly. Electric faithfully reproduces these dynamic interactions through synthesis, allowing for an amazing degree of customization and experimentation.

The exciting thing is that every aspect of this Collision + Corpus equation is adjustable—you have complete control over the excitation source, the force of the impact and the type of resonator. Experiment with different materials: from glass or metal to wood, nylon and rubber. Try out different listening positions and compare parallel and serial configurations. Choose your resonator

Collision features seven resonator types. Here, "resonator" refers to both the playing surface and the (optional) resonating body behind it. The choice is yours:

Beam simulates beams of different materials and sizes.
Marimba is a specialized beam. It reproduces the characteristic tuning of marimba bar overtones that are produced as a result of the deep arch cut of the bars.
String simulates strings of different materials and sizes as found in instruments such as pianos, guitars and dulcimers.
Membrane is a rectangular drumhead, with options for adjusting material and size.
Plate simulates a rectangular plate of different materials and sizes.
Pipe simulates a cylinder with one end open and a variable opening at the other end (adjusted with the "Opening" parameter).
Tube simulates a cylinder that is fully open at both ends.

Go configure

Collision has two configuration modes: parallel and serial. These mirror the real-world construction of these instruments—a xylophone, for example, consists of a beater, a playing surface (which is also a resonator...) with a resonating tube underneath. So a xylophone is a serial configuration. The parallel setup is not common in the real world but this is where physical modeling synthesis really scores: creating virtual instruments beyond physical constraints. Think of it as hitting two interdependent resonators or playing surfaces simultaneously.

Corpus separatus

Corpus is a virtual resonator or soundbox with a life of its own. Independent of Collision, you can use Corpus to add physical modeling characteristics to audio material or place it behind any virtual instrument to create complex resonances. You can avoid some tricky mic setups and studio workarounds simply by using Corpus instead. To round things off, Corpus' secret weapon is a MIDI sidechain input. Use this to control the pitch of the resonances produced and give pitched resonances to unpitched percussion.

Every voice is processed with a multimode filter with several filter types including morphing filters, allowing you to seamlessly morph from low-pass to band-pass to high-pass to notch and back with a single control. Every aspect of the sound, including sample start and loop position as well as loop length, can be polyphonically modulated. A dedicated modulation oscillator allows samples to be frequency- or amplitude-modulated, allowing for selective harmonic or disharmonic enrichment of the original timbres. Three LFOs, five multimode envelopes and various MIDI inputs serve as modulation sources. Operator features seven flexible envelopes: one for each of the oscillators, the filter, LFO and pitch. The pitch envelope is capable of modulating each oscillator and the LFO. All envelopes feature loop, beat and sync modes making it possible to create evolving, rhythmic sounds of great complexity.

Stringed instruments vary greatly in shape, size and playing method. The vibration of a string is the main sound-producing mechanism of stringed instruments. The player sets the string in motion by the use of a pick, a bow or a hammer, similar to those found in a piano. The pitch of the string is determined by its length, which can be fixed, as in a piano, or changeable, as on a guitar. The vibration from the string is transmitted to the body of the instrument, which resonates and increases the volume of the sound, or to an electric pickup, which amplifies the string vibration. Tension gives you access to all of these elements and more, making it possible to recreate realistic and dynamic stringed instruments or mix and match characteristics of various instruments to create something completely new.

Transform Multiply

The virtual emulation offered in the Prophet V is an exact replica of the original instrument and uses the same subtractive synthesis model. Subtractive synthesis refers to the filtering of sounds in a specific way in order to create harmonically rich waveforms and new timbres. Our reproduction of Subtractive synthesis with TAE® guarantees the sound quality of the instrument.

The Prophet V carries all of the original parameters, and the 40 original presets of the Prophet 5. The potentiometers or switches associated to these 54 parameters will permit you to create an infinite variety of sounds that were native to the original synthesizer.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY...

It was in 1964 that the first prototype of a Moog synthesizer was produced. It was presented at the AES Show (Audio Engineering Society) and immediately generated a huge amount of interest. In 1965 Bob Moog decided to release the 900 series for commercial sale, and in 1967 he made the decision to produce different machines, each with a certain number of modules. This marked the birth of modular systems I, II and III.

"Probably the number one system" (Peter Forrest, The A-Z of Analog Synthesizers), the Moog Modular was soon to be adopted by groups like Tangerine Dream, The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Stevie Wonder, Klaus Schultze, Isao Tomita and many others including Jean-Michel Jarre and Keith Emerson were also among the users.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY...

«Here it is! A compact, moderately priced electronic music synthesizer designed for live performance.» This is the way the Minimoog is introduced on the very first promotional brochure, in the midst of 1971.

The Minimoog synthesizer required several months of research and development and 4 prototypes, before leading to the commercial model. More than 12,000 units were sold until 1981. They were quite far from the 10 modular units per month that Moog Music produced in the late 60’s.

The very first Minimoog prototype was called Model A. Three other versions, B, C and D, followed. This last model is the final and most common incarnation of the Minimoog synthesizer and the only one that was put into production in large numbers. The choice of wood rather than plastic for the cabinet prevailed from the beginning, simply because Robert Moog preferred to follow the advice of musician friends, rather than drawings coming from Moog’s industrial engineers. The Model D was first introduced at the NAMM convention in June 1971. It was Moog’s first exposure to the music instruments industry - and the industry's first exposure to synthesizers. The reception is rather cold as, according Robert Moog himself, «Most dealers didn't know what to make of a musical instrument with words like Oscillator Bank and Filter printed on the front panel.»


The Minimoog knew an unparalleled success during the 1970’s. Artists and bands like Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Keith Emerson, Jean-Michel Jarre, Klaus Schulze, and Rick Wakeman used the synthesizer, notably for the typical sound and its very warm quality, which is excellent for basses and lead sounds.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY... 

Back to the early 80’s, the Prophet 5 and Oberheim OB series dominated the polyphonic synthesizer market. Having that in mind the Jupiter-8’s success, initiated in 1981, took every one by storm. 

But what made the Jupiter-8 so successful? Well, in terms of sonic possibilities, it complemented its competition by bringing something different. The Jupiter-8 was capable of creating very versatile sounds. You could easily make 'fat' or ‘Crystal’ sounds with it. In fact, the Jupiter-8 sounded the way it looked, ‘sleek and polished’. 

The electro-pop community became quickly convinced by the qualities of the Jupiter-8.'Relax', by Frankie Goes to Hollywood was produced incorporating a Jupiter 8, and players such as Vince Clarke, John Foxx, and Martyn Ware were also using it. The path to classic status of the Jupiter started there. Other artists that have used The Jupiter-8 include Tangerine Dream, Underworld, Jean Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode, Prince, Gary Wright, Adrian Lee, Heaven 17, Kitaro, Elvis Costello, Tears for Fears, Huey Lewis and the News, Journey, Devo,Freddy Fresh, Simple Minds, Jan Hammer and BT.


AN ACCURATE RECREATION OF THE ROLAND JUPITER-8

The legacy of the Roland Jupiter synthesizers  is due to their unique  voice architecture and  design, creating sounds that were so unreal  that they  have to be heard. For many musicians  no other synths in the world  can create analog  sounds as cool and as authentic as these.

The Jupiter-8 offers a very interesting combination of a high-pass non resonant filter and a low-pass resonant filter.

The Jupiter's step sequencer is also an assignable modulation source, which allows for easily generated patterns to be used to control the many interesting parameters of the sound.

In addition to the step sequencer and Galaxy modulation sources, each voice now has its own suite of creative effects, which can be inserted into the main synthesizer signal path in each voice. Key parameters from each effect can be modulated by chosen sources, adding a new contemporary dimension to the traditional subtractive synthesis sound of the original Jupiter 8.
